4.10 Come to Collect
Paddy Reagan
+Lyrics
Here in the laundry room, Helen and Samuel
Making it work with a block of wood
Mom said it's all a laugh
The boots and the leather straps
Tiffany timing is twice as good
Sit in a circle and tell me the truth
If you're such a rich kid then what'd you do?
Lean on the intellect, heavy and underfed
Come to collect in the afternoon.
Dad said it's all a dream, except what you couldn't see
Bringing up American mediocrity queens
Sit in a circle and tell me the truth
If you're such a good kid then what'd you do?
Sit in a circle and tell me the truth
If it's such a good life then what have you got to lose?
Writing a song is a cheap way of getting words out into the world. The melody does the work for you and with a short story to pull some names, words, or concepts from, you can say anything and let the listener construct the story on their own. I wanted to paint a picture, make a sound collage using morse code, or do something massive outside of my comfort zone, but this is the thing I know how to do and so I did it.
